Your destiny is your destiny and sometimes life guides you to it in the most uncomfortable ways. In my instance I was forced to look at my life and more valuable a lesson, to look at myself. I was raised in dysfunction and chaos, groomed for it. My parents fought all the time. It was the norm for me, so I was unaware that my life choices effortlessly devalued my concept of self and injured my own self esteem. These things ultimately made me a target for illness.

In 2002 after being diagnosed with Sar-coi-dosis, a rare condition that causes small patches of red and swollen tissue, called granulomas, to develop in the organs of the body. In her case, it was multi-symptom sarcoidosis involving, her eyes, lungs, muscles, joints and skin.
At the point of a near death experience, she opted for a holistic protocol over traditional medicine which changed the entire course of her life. Born with a veil to heal and a growing interest in the world of ayurvedic practice, nearly 2 decades as an essential oil enthusiast, student of alternative healing and simply an inquisitive soul, she had a visitation that led to what she calls 'The Ruach Experience' thus Oil of Ru became!
Genie Butter by Oil of Ru, short for Ruach, a Hebrew word (pronounced roo-akh or roo-ah) means breath, spirit.
Awakened by excitement, the first batch of Genie Butter was created in her small kitchen at home in Silver Spring, MD gathering oils and butters around the house. The entire household quickly replaced all lotions, balms and butters with her butter. Eventually she shipped her butter to family members in empty deer-park water bottles. Hey, it was more about the book than the cover back then.
Genie Butter manifested first in a dream during one of the most financially trying seasons she and her family had ever encountered, covid-19. Her entire household was out of work and relying upon unstable means to cover overhead and expenses. Bit by bit with the help of a few friends, she began investing in the equipment and supplies necessary to launch Oil of Ru.

October 18th of 2021, which was her 56th birthday, Genie Butter by Oil of Ru made an official debut on Instagram live.
75 jars sold following that live launch. Sonya explained how her struggles, health crisis and skin issues led to a desire to take better care of her self and look like it too.
It was clear then, that Genie Butter was born to be more than a body butter, it was a way of life through intentional self-love, self-care and knock out, beauty and body products by Oil of Ru.
